The Equine mouth including Dentistry and Dental Anatomy

Dental care is crucial for the horse, but many owners are still unaware of how important.
This full theory day explores Dental Anatomy, dental disease & issues that as Equine therapists we may come across during day to day practice.
Having a basic knowledge on how the horses’ teeth grow, develop & wear along with behaviour signs that can be linked to potential dental issues is vital for the therapists treating the horse.
Some signs that could be due to dental problems:
Quidding
Eating slowly
Being head shy
Bad breath
“Naughtiness” when being ridden
Headshaking when being ridden or when eating
Long stems of fibre in droppings
Weight loss
Snotty nose
Colic
Choke
Extension of the head and neck
Distress
Coughing
Dribbling
Nasal discharge with bits of food in it or saliva
In the afternoon you will have the opportunity to dissect the head.
