Herbal Humours: Behaviour, Physiology & Herbal Selection

May 15 @ 9:30 am - 4:00 pm

With Rachael Maxwell; Applied Herbal Choices for Animals consultant and medicinal herbalist.

£100 for Applied Herbal Choices and Animal Botanicals graduates.  £120 for anyone else.

This CPD day for consultants in Zoopharmacognosy introduces the Western Herbal Medicine framework of the Four Humours as a practical way of understanding animals through behaviour, physiology, and tissue state.

Rather than diagnosing, we will explore how humoural patterns show up in movement, digestion, tone, posture, energy, and interaction, and how these patterns help guide which herbs are most relevant for the animal at that time.

Key themes include:

  • The four humours and their core qualities (Blood, Yellow bile, Black bile, Phlegm)

  • Recognising humoural tendencies through observable animal physiology and behaviour

  • Using humoural understanding to refine herbal selection alongside innate selection and seasonal awareness

Practical work with herbs supports a grounded, embodied understanding of humoural qualities and how this classical framework can be applied meaningfully in modern animal herbal practice.
